8-Ball Bar Rules
If the 8-ball is pocketed on the break, the breaker wins.
If the cue ball is scratched or jumped on the break, a re-rack is completed, and the second player completes a new break.
“Take what you make”: groups (solids or stripes) are assigned by sinking a ball on the break or the first legally pocketed ball after the break. If either a solid or stripe is made on the break, the player who did the break continues their turn with an open table.
Every shot must be called in detail, including combos, caroms, rail-first, banks, and kicks; failing to call any part results in loss of turn but cue ball remains in place.
In any combos, the player must hit his ball first. If this is not completed in the beginning of the combo, then it is loss of turn.
On a scratch or cue ball jumped off the table, the opponent gets ball-in-hand “in the kitchen” (behind the head string) and must shoot the cue ball forward out of the kitchen.
The 8-ball cannot be used as part of a combination or kiss shot; it must be pocketed cleanly without contacting another ball first.
When shooting at the 8-ball, hitting an opponent’s ball first or scratching/jumping the cue ball is an automatic loss.
Defensive “safeties” are generally discouraged as “dirty pool”; play is expected to always attempt a shot or break out a cluster if no direct shot is possible.
There will be an official available for each game. Any questions on play or rules will be answered by the official and final.
